Caring for your Cabinetry

Thermofoil Care

Regular Care and Cleaning

Always use a cotton cloth or non-abrasive sponge.

  • Option 1: Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge with mild dish soap.
  • Option 2: Wipe with a damp cloth or sponge using a 50/50 mix of water and Simple Green®. (Simple Green works well on oily or tacky surfaces.)

Cleaning of Stains (Infrequent Care)

Always use a cotton cloth or non-abrasive sponge.

  • Step 1: Using a damp cloth or sponge with a 50/50 mix of water and Simple Green, scrub lightly for 10 to 20 strokes. This should remove most stains.
    • If stain persists, move on to Step 2 and if necessary, Step 3.
  • Step 2: Using a damp cloth or sponge with Buckeye Workout®, standard Fantastik® (S.C. Johnson), or standard Formula 409® (The Clorox Co.), lightly wipe for 10 - 20 strokes. Buckeye Workout is a commercial cleaner and readily available from a local distributor - call: 314.291.1900.
    • Note: Buckeye Workout contains water & propylene glycol phenyl ether.
  • Step 3: Place a cloth or sponge damp with 70% Isopropyl Alcohol on top of the stain for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the cloth or sponge and wipe. This should remove makeup, ball-point ink, and other stubborn stains.
  • If stain persists, repeat Step 3 until stain is removed.

Disinfecting Thermofoil Surfaces

A mixture of 10% bleach, 90% water can be used as a disinfectant on most thermofoil surfaces. Before using the mixture on an entire surface, be sure to test it on a non-visual spot.

Cleaners to Avoid

  • Any abrasive cleaner
  • Most solvent based cleaners and harsh chemicals i.e., sink & toilet bowl cleaners
  • Any cleaner in combination with a brush
  • Cleaners containing ammonia
  • Baking soda

If a harsh chemical is spilled on a thermofoil surface, wipe it up immediately. Then wash the surface with soapy water and rinse several times.

Product Limitations

Thermofoil products are not intended for use as cutting surfaces; always use a cutting board. Do not place hot pans from a stove directly onto thermofoil surfaces. This product is not intended for use in exterior applications.

Heat Shields

Holiday Kitchens requires the use of heat shields with our Foil products. Thermofoils, although very durable, can be damaged by excessive heat. Without heat shields installed in the necessary locations, the Holiday Kitchens Lifetime Limited warranty is null and void. Heat shields are metal strips that are 1 9/16” wide x 30” long available in black, white, and aluminum colored. When properly installed, protect cabinets adjacent to ovens, ranges, and dishwashers. They deflect heat from the cabinetry. We also recommend opening doors and drawers away from the oven during high-temperature self-cleaning cycles. Also, pull countertop appliances, such as toasters, oven grills, or coffee makers, out from under the cabinetry before use. Damage caused by excessive heat is not covered by our warranty.

Important Reminder: We highly recommend opening doors and drawers away from the oven during high-temperature self-cleaning cycles.
